zmx
Session persistence for terminal processes
zmx provides session persistence for terminal PTY (pseudoterminal) processes. It allows named shell sessions to be created, detached from, and re-attached to without killing the underlying process — preserving terminal state and scrollback history across reconnections. Unlike tmux or GNU screen, zmx deliberately does not provide windows, panes, or splits. Window management is delegated to the OS window manager or terminal emulator. This philosophy keeps zmx small, composable, and fully compatible with all terminal features (e.g. Kitty Graphics Protocol, sixel, true color) without requiring double support from both the multiplexer and the emulator. Multiple clients can attach to the same session simultaneously. Terminal state is restored on re-attach using libghostty-vt.
